Dr. Ilaria Cristofaro

Ilaria Cristofaro is a PhD student at Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Italy. Her interdisciplinary doctoral project investigates the astronomical orientation of temples and cities in ancient Campania from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period, supervised by archaeologist Prof Carlo Rescigno. Ilaria is an astronomer with a specialisation in cultural astronomy, archaeoastronomy & skyscape archaeology. She holds a B.Sc. in Astronomy from Univerisità Alma Mater di Bologna, Italy, and an MA in Cultural Astronomy & Astrology at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UK. She is president director of Osservatorio Astronomico Sirio at Castellana Grotte (BA, Italy), where she leads outreaching activities to introduce the public to the celestial vault. She is a member of Società Italiana di Archeoastornomia (SIA), the European Society for Astronomy in Culture (SEAC) and the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), and collaborates with the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture.
